Description: Our
neighborhoods are rapidly changing in terms of demographics and
as God's people, we have the opportunity to create worship that
reflects the richness of the cultural diversity around us. After
thirty years of urban ministry, New City Fellowship has been a crucible
for music and worship that unites believers from African American,
Latino and Anglo cultures. This seminar will give attendees ideas
and resources for enhancing worship within diverse congregations.
Objectives: Attendees
will.........
~ Hear lecture demonstrations
of biblical foundations for cross-cultural worship
~ Discover stylistic elements of African American worship and its
relationship to other cultures
~ Sing through praise songs from a variety of sources that bring
unity to diverse congregations
~ Sing through adult and youth choir selections that are readily
available from publishers or recordings
~ Discuss the form and flow within the urban worship service
~ Discuss resources and solutions to typical struggles of the local
church in musicianship
~ Be challenged to spiritual development of diverse talent in the
worship setting
